Catching up on my New Yorker reading, a fascinating profile of the new Brazilian president

One of the things that amazes us is why the American economy cannot recover, considering that it plays a very important role in the international scene. It seems that the benefits went to those who caused the crisis—large banks, mainly—and consumers had to pay the price of the sub-prime bubble in order to keep their homes and recover their consumption capacity.
